Are swimming lessons important?

The proof is in the results

 

Over the Christmas holidays  my 5 year old son was playing in a swimming pool with his friends while the parents were sitting pool side keeping an eye out.  It only took a few seconds of not watching close enough for my 19 month old son to fall in. We have no way of knowing how long he was in the water it could have been as little as 5 seconds or as much as 30 seconds, but it all happening so quickly. 

 

To my amazement when I jumped in to retrieve him I saw him only inches from the surface of the water putting into practice all that he has learnt since starting lessons at Swim Stars at the age of  8 months.

 

He had his mouth closed, was trying to blow bubbles and kicking his legs and arms, and in no way did he panic. After lifting him out of the water we all clapped and cheered at the great job he had done, and although my heart was in my throat, little Sam was grinning from ear to ear, showing no ill effects at all.  I was very proud of him for using the skills he as acquired in his time at Swim Stars and am now convinced that without those lessons he could very well have developed a life long fear of the water.

 

This incident has only strengthened my belief that swimming lessons in early childhood are vital to ALL of our children, and I would encourage all parents to ensure that their children learn the necessary skills that could one day save their life or the life of another. Although the incident we had was minor, in different circumstances it could very well have become a tragedy.

To Swim Stars Swim School

I transferred to Swim Stars Swim School from another swim centre at the beginning of 2007, based on a recommendation from a friend.

Since transferring I have been delighted with the quality of the swimming lessons. Samantha and Anne have provided guidance and support to both my children encouraging them to reach their potential. My eldest child had undertaken years of swimming lessons at the previous centre and was still very reluctant to enter the water. He commenced lessons with Anne and within a short time frame was showing remarkable improvement. I feel Anne achieved this by using positive reinforcement, gentle but firm encouragement and creativity when designing her lesson plans. My child now loves his swimming lessons and under Anne’s guidance is progressing confidently and happily.

My youngest child started in the Bubble Babies group and has now progressed to the Starfish program. Under both programs the quality of the teaching and lesson plans were excellent and designed to encourage positive learning and survival techniques. Samantha and Anne are always available and willing to address any concerns regarding my children’s progress at any stage. They also encourage communication with families through regular newsletters, updating families to any changes as well as tips and hints.

I highly recommend Swim Stars Swim School to anyone who is looking to start their child in swimming lessons or are considering transferring from a different swim school.

Swim Stars Swim School

My daughter Shyla has been attending Swim Stars for a year now and we are so happy with the way she has overcome her fear with water, with the patience and dedication of the instructors and the love they have for the children, Shyla has achieved great confidence in the water.

Before attending Swim Stars we had tried other swim schools and found that our child was in a large group and was not getting the quality time to be taught to swim and at the same time swimming needed to be fun!

Swim Stars has given my daughter the ability to learn how to swim, give her the confidence submerging in the water and able to have fun with the other children in the class.

Anne and Samantha have a great understanding of the children, are caring, professional and have made a family orientated environment. The relationship that they have with the children is of great love and passion of the job. I transferred my daughter Michelle to Swim Stars Swim School in February 2007 after attending swimming lessons at another local swim centre for aprox 18mths.

Since joining Swim Stars, my daughters confidence in the water has improved immeasurably as have her swim techniques. The specialist qualifications held by staff enables them to provide quality teaching methods, whilst giving gentle, but firm encouragement to help foster children’s love of the water and to build a trusting relationship with their teacher.

I would highly recommend Swim Stars Swim School, as their dedication to teaching and the professional business approach Sam and Anne have in treating families as part of their business rather than numbers has made this swim school one of the best in the area.

I would just like to say how thrilled we are with Swim Stars Swim School and would highly recommend them to anyone with young children.

We started at Swim Stars over twelve months ago now with our youngest son in the bubble babies class. Both my husband and I had turns at taking him in the water and thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. Anne ensured that the classes were relaxed and fun and the children felt comfortable.

Our son has now progressed to Starfish classes and is learning to swim independently with Samantha. He has tremendous confidence in the water and just loves getting to class to see Samantha and Anne.

We have also recently started our six year old daughter in classes at Swim Stars after being extremely disappointed with another larger swim school. We have found that at Swim Stars the classes are smaller, less noisy and she gets far more attention and is making better progress than she did at the previous school.

The other aspect we like about Swim Stars is the wonderful personal approach that Anne and Samantha take towards everyone. Upon arriving at Swim Stars you are always greeted by name, with a smile and genuine care about how your family is going.

Once again we highly recommend Swim Stars Swim School.

Swim Stars Swim School

I am writing to express my appreciation of the staff and management at Swim Stars Swim School. My three children are students in Sam’s classes on a Saturday. The patience that Sam has with all the children in her classes is outstanding as well as her ability to show her authority and gain the respect of all her students. She has developed a trusting relationship with all three of my children (probably more than she knows!), which I feel is extremely important with children learning to swim.

Having experienced Learn to Swim programs through other swim centres, I have been able to compare how much progress my children have made with an instructor such as Samantha. The structure of the classes along with the dedication, organisation and the pride the instructors show in their students is certainly appreciated by all the parents of children at Swim Stars Swim School.
